A creative space

Yesterday morning, while finishing up my 1950s Kate Spade inspired illustration,  I received an e-mail invitation to place some of my artwork in The Creative Wedge, a new shop that will feature handcrafted gifts, American farmstead cheese and sweet delicacies.    The owners, Sloane and Barbara, have been busy remodeling, painting, building and gathering items in preparation for their April 27th grand opening.

Thrilled to be invited, I hopped on my bike and headed up the road to check out the space and chat with the owners.  The day was gorgeous and it felt great to get out in the fresh spring air.

Sloane, Barbara and their husbands have done an amazing job fixing up the retail space.  Their shop is full of color and will be an awesome place to showcase artwork.   I will be dropping off some of my pieces today and look forward to working with and supporting these two creative women.

If you are in the area, please stop by to champion this new business and those who have worked so tirelessly to get it up and running.

Kudos Sloane and Barbara - wishing you all the best!

Take it outdoors

After a long, cold spring it's nice to be able to move my work space out onto the front porch.

So I took my own words of advice and went outside to paint.  As adults we need to remind ourselves every now and then to take a break from work or our busy schedules and bring back the joyous nature of play.

Just do it and have a great day!

Doodle Art

Created with pencil and pen while watching The Voice - because I cannot just sit still!

Now if I can just keep my body as active as my mind I'll be in good shape!

In my Studio

The ladies return for another delightful morning of art.

“It took me years to learn to sit at my desk for more than two minutes at a time, to put up with the solitude and the terror of failure, and the godawful silence and the blank canvas. And now that I can take it . . . now that I can finally do it . . . I'm really raring to go."

Hello Spring!

Finally looking like we might actually be done with winter!

I've been dying to get back out on the front porch and enjoy my morning cup of coffee as neighborhood kids head off to the bus stop, moms gather for a quick hello, and dogs play amongst it all.

It's such a pleasure to get a bit of work done while basking in a warm spring breeze and sunshine.

Even our cat Roxy wants to escape from her indoor confines to enjoy the wonders of Spring.  So happy to shake off our winter coats and at long last relish the change of temperature!

In my studio

Just finished - Custom portrait painting of a beach girl for her college graduation.

My customer, the beach girls godmother, wanted to have this fun portrait painted with the inspirational quote "Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." written across the top.

Close up view of the portrait in process.  Working on the girls curly blonde hair and highlights created by the bright sunshine.

The quote was written along the top of the painting, outlined and filled in with a white painters pen.

Ready to ship - the finished painting shown with the original image.  Hoping the graduate will be doing happy cartwheels when she receives her diploma and her special gift.
