West Coast Surf Art

A new series of paintings fresh from California.

My last series of surf paintings were based on photo's I took along the east coast of Virginia.  I'm now working on a series prompted by surf images sent to my husband from the west coast of California.

My sister and her family live in California where my brother-in-law doesn't have to wait days, weeks or even months for ride-able surf.  This particular painting was inspired by a picture taken at Sunset Cliffs in San Diego.

A close up view of the painting shows layers of color and texture created with acrylic paint on cold press paper.

The finished 5 x 5.5 inch acrylic painting on acid free cold press paper is backed with foam core board for stability.  It can be left unframed and propped up on a shelf, desk or small easel.  Or matted and framed in a 6 x 9 inch frame.  The painting is available here

The painting has also been made into an 8 x 10 inch giclee print which is available here

Thank you Joey for the image.  I look forward to receiving and painting more!  :)

Pops of Pink for Spring

Although not being much of a "girly-girl" I am a big fan of pink.  Pink is such a fun and cheerful color.  Therefore, I love using pops of it not only in my artwork but also as an accent color around my home.

A new print from my original acrylic painting - and my first try at painting a mermaid. Here pink was set against waves of seafoam green.  I'm currently working on another mermaid painting and will soon post pictures of that painting in process.

And another new print from an original painting.  This one is filled with springtime color and showcases pink surrounded by turquoise - another favorite color - and a bright slash of green.

IN MY HOUSE
My living room filled with summertime color.  The ottoman, which was covered with a horrid floral pattern, was given a fresh new look with primer and acrylic paint.  The window treatments were made from a large sheet of foam core board, cut and painted - so easy to do and easy on the wallet.

Another view with a little more pink.

Thanks for your visit.  If you'd like more information on the prints just click here  And here for more information on painting a fabric covered ottoman.

Beach Cottage Decor

Loving the look of this casual white and seafoam green beach cottage dining area and thought it would be fun to add a few coastal inspired accessories around the room.

LIGHTING:

A shell chandelier hung above the table would definitely bring a bit of the beach indoors!

FOR THE TABLE:

These painted beach bottles in shades of turquoise and green would look lovely filled with fresh hydrangea.

This set of calming waters dinnerware is beach cottage fabulous and a must for accessorizing an ocean side table.

Hand stamped silver "Beach Livin" dinner ware, which can go from a casual brunch to something a little more formal, would work perfectly in this room.

FOR THE WALL:

A colorful and fun beach party print hung above the side table brings the sunshine indoors.

FOR THE FLOOR:

A flip flop bucket is a must have for catching all that beach sand before it makes its way indoors!

Ahhh....my dreams of summertime continue as the wind whips and the temperature dips.

In my studio

Thoughts of loved ones and Valentine's Day are keeping me busy and in the studio.  Just finished is a custom portrait painting from a sister to her sibling.

My customer, who lives in Canada, contacted me after seeing one of my surfer girl paintings.  The painting reminded her so much of her sister, who lives in Hawaii, it gave her thoughts of a custom painted piece of art.

She sent a beautiful picture of her sister surrounded by shades of blue, green and brown in the ocean, land and sky.  My customer decided she didn't want the island in the background, so that was removed in the painting.

I love the warm shades of brown, yellow, orange and lime green set against a cool blue background,

Although distance separates these two women, I am sure that warm memories, laughter and shared secrets keep them close.  How lovely if my customer could deliver her finished painting in person.  Although....I wouldn't mind a little trip to Hawaii myself!  My husband and I have been discussing another vacation and I think I could write this one off as a business expense.......

If you are interested in a custom portrait painting, you can find more information here
It would be especially fabulous if you live on the beach, in a warm location, and wouldn't mind a little hand delivered shipment!
