Winter Whites - A few more of my favorites

There is  nothing like a blanket of winter snow to turn a beach town into a beautiful gray-scale color scene.  Here are a few images of my home and town covered in white.

 

The first snowfall of the season was beautiful and completely changed the look of our town.  It was also rare enough to leave us wanting more.

Fond Family Memories

As the holiday season came to an end a bit of nostalgia washed over me.   Our season began with a Thanksgiving trip to New York City.  Just my husband, son, daughter and myself spending the holiday together - a family tradition started when our children were eight and five years old.  Then, miraculously, snow fell on Christmas night bringing with it silent beauty and more time to spend together as a family.  Our best present ever!

Thanksgiving in the City

The view from my husbands cousins apartment in Battery Park - which she and her husband graciously let us occupy, and for which we are extremely grateful.

  Snoopy and Ronald McDonald float by during the 84th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The celebration featured approximately 8,000 participants including more 1,600 cheerleaders and dancers, twelve marching bands, and an assortment of celebrities in addition to 15 giant character balloons.  Snow flurries started as we were waiting for the parade to start, adding to the overall festive atmosphere.

 

 The elaborate holiday window displays and awe inspiring buildings festooned with twinkling lights are true works of art.  So much to see, so little time!  Click here for a link to an amazing slide show of window displays.

 Obviously the holiday spirit filled our hearts and feet as we took our last subway ride back home.

Christmas Eve Snowfall

 We awoke on December 26 to a yard covered in 8 inches of snow.  The snow continued to fall throughout the day and way into the evening.  It is amazing how different, and beautiful, everything looks with a covering of white.

 

 The world around us looked like a gray scale painting.  Making for a very melancholy winter scene.

 

All bundled up, we took a walk down to the beach to check out and photograph our winter wonderland.

From our neighborhood lake covered in snow and slushy ice,

to a set of Adirondack chairs - the perfect spot for a cup of hot cocoa - to

The Old Cavalier displayed in her wintry glory.

Snow added an artistic element to portraits and scenery

 

And made our sweet dog long for a warm spot in front of the fireplace.

 

As our day came to an end and the snow continued to fall.
