Girls Night Out

Friday night was a conglomeration of women, wine and art as three fun loving ladies gathered together in my studio for a step by step painting party.

Planning for the party:

In preparation for the party I pre-painted the image to be used for inspiration and gathered together all painting supplies.  The ladies were encouraged to bring a bottle of wine and snacks to enjoy.

The Art Party:

The ladies began with a blank 16x20 inch canvas and after a brief discussion about complimentary colors and composition were lead step by step through the painting process.  For this painting we used four colors:  red, green, yellow and white.

The Finished Masterpieces:

Acrylic paint dries quickly so at the end of class the ladies were able to take their creations home.

I heart time with friends.

The inclusion of blustery winter weather on a weekend get away to our friends beach house provided the perfect opportunity for a little pottery painting.

In hopes for a lazy afternoon, I had prepacked a few bisque plates along with my pottery painting supplies.  All it took to get the girls motivated was a brisk walk beside the ocean along with the promise of a cosmopolitan made by my husband.

A roaring fire added an element of 1960's warmth to our groovy little party.

Once home the plates were glazed and fired.  They came out of my kiln this morning and are ready to be filled with sweet little treats.

A weekend vacation, good friends and a warm fire are memories held within each painted heart.

A Surprise Birthday Painting Party

Table Setting for an artistic birthday party
A few weeks ago I hosted a surprise pottery painting party for the daughter of one of my Monday morning art ladies.  Her daughter is a young mom of two boys - a newborn and a three year old - and many of the invited guests are young mothers as well.  It was a special evening for these ladies, who rarely have time to get together, and a true surprise for the birthday girl.

The birthday girl (on right) and one of her best friends busy painting their special platters.
The birthday girl dives right into sketching her image while the other girls look on in amazement.
The discussions were lively and many very funny and touching stories were shared.
The girls and the party hostess pose for a picture.
Great big smiles are a true testament of a happy evening spent amongst friends and each artists delight in their handcrafted work.
